Host name ping to another ip.
Hi,
When i ping on host name ite reply to another ip.
my host entry is:-
##***Cluster Node IP Address ***
192.168.6.5 uatdata1 uatdata1.mpmkvvcl.com
192.168.6.6 uatdata2 uatdata2.mpmkvvcl.com
##***Private IP Addresses ***
15.1.1.1 uatdata1-priv uatdata1-priv.mpmkvvcl.com
15.1.1.2 uatdata2-priv uatdata2-priv.mpmkvvcl.com
## *****Cluster VIP's*****
192.168.6.25 uatdata1-vip uatdata1-vip.mpmkvvcl.com
192.168.6.26 uatdata2-vip uatdata2-vip.mpmkvvcl.com
##*************application server****************
192.168.5.5 uatapp1 uatapp1.mpmkvvcl.com
192.168.5.6 uatapp2 uatapp2.mpmkvvcl.com
Example:
ping uatdata1-vip.mpmkvvcl.com
PING 208-87-35-101.securehost.com: 64 byte packets 64 bytes from 208.87.35.101: icmp_seq=0. time=464. ms 64 bytes from 208.87.35.101: icmp_seq=1. time=457. ms 64 bytes from 208.87.35.101: icmp_seq=2. time=465. ms
its reply to another ip but its host entry is (192.168.6.25 uatdata1-vip uatdata1-vip.mpmkvvcl.com )
1.Why its not reply to 192.168.6.25 ?
Is any thing wrong on my cluster host entry.
Please help me as soon as possible.

The first thing I would do:
# nslookup uatdata1-vip.mpmkvvcl.com
This will give you an idea how the system is resolving that hostname.
My guess is that you have a DNS server configured, and your /etc/nsswitch.conf is configured to try DNS first.
