Host not reachable

I am receiving "Host not reachable" each time I try to establish the default gateway for my system. I've attempted using SAM and also issued route from the command line. I can ping other machines, telnet into the machine I'm having the problem with, and I can actually ping the gateway IP successfully. I'm uncertain what is happening. Any suggestions ?

Can you give a few more details like:

What is the IP of the machine you're working on?
What is the IP of the default gateway?
What's your subnet mask?
What is the IP of other machines you can get to?

This can be caused by the subnet netmask.

What is the command did you using to setup gw, with argument. your system's ip? Subnet mask

route add net default IP_addr_of_router 1

Hi,

Did you try a traceroute?
Can you access a webconsole to check the server? What does the syslog say?

Can you resolve the hostname?
Could you also look into nsswitch.conf file?

This can be because of subnetmask.
Can you give the ip addresses and route command you using. Check current routing table with #netstat -rnv
