Hostnames longer than 8 characters

Are there any know issues with having hostnames longer than 8 characters with HP-UX 11i? I've read about certain networking issues, as well as issues with swintall, ignite, etc, but those were all under 10.x.

Many, if not all, of those issues still exist. The best recommendation I can make is to stick to no more than 8 characters.

Besides the fact that it doesn't work, there are no other issues.

I tried it with 11i v 1.0 PA-RISC and there were errors and swagentd did not work.

hostname=jerusalem did not work
It let met set it, but the machine did not work right.

jerusalem generates an error
moriah does not
moriah.juf.net does not generate an error.

My suggestion? Don't do it. Pick an 8 character hostname.
