How big a hard drive can go in a 715?

I have a number of HP 9000 715 computers runing HP-UX 10.20. Upgrade dollars are not yet available and I'm running out of disk space. I have two 1 Gigabyte hard drives inside each system. I would like confirmation that I can replace them both with a 9 gigabyte drive. I haven't found anything to the contrary. Has anybody done anything like this.

Hi !

The 715 have SE SCSI, but I think from HP You can buy only remarketed SE SCSI drives.
I think 715 can handle 9 GB SE drive, but HP support it only for 2 or 4 GB because the 9 GB drive is a newer one.
So in my opinion 9GB SE SCSI drive will work, but HP wouldn't be support it, and You can't use on-line diagnostics in this way.

Hi,

You should not have any problems with adding a larger disk to your system. As for what disk to add ... see the following link

Re: How big a hard drive can go in a 715?

Currently the largest disk drive that can go in a 715 is 73 gigabytes. You need a cable converter on the disk drive to convert from wide (68 pin) SCSI to the internal narrow (50 pin) ribbon cable, but yes, you can have as much as 146 GB of disk storage inside your 715.

Third party vendors, such as MDL, can provide the necessary parts.
