How can I add a second hard disk to act act as mirror?

How can I add a second hard disk to act act as mirror?

Hi,

I need help on creating a second hard disk to act as mirror disk to an existing hard disk.

1.) I previously created a backup of the OS using the command:
make_tape_recovery -A -I -v
2.) I then removed hard disk of slot 0 and place hard disk from slot 1 to slot 0 (that means slot 0 hard disk is now empty.
3.) then I restore the backup I created.
4.) Now everything is working with only one hard disk.
5.) I want to insert the other disk on slot 1 and make it as a mirror disk of the disk in slot 0.
6.) I do not have an HP-UX Mirror Disk s/w.

Please help on the process of how I can do this. Below is the print manifest of the system. I hope someone can guide me on this one.

thanks guys :)

Kind regards,

Antonio

Re: How can I add a second hard disk to act act as mirror?

Hi,

insert the second disk and install HP-UX Mirror Disk.
If you don't want to buy it, you can do manual 'dd' from one disk to the other (once a week/month?).
You can try to define it as a cron job.
I don't know another solution or freeware.
Maybe you can ask the gurus in the hp-ux forum:

Re: How can I add a second hard disk to act act as mirror?

hi,

basically all you have is a backup disk so far of VG00.

Is this all you need? all thats on the disk?

without mirrordisk/ux or a hardware raid controller, you are not going to achieve much else.

if you want everything you do on the system copied to the 2nd disk then its not going to happen without something else.

if you dont want to buy the mirrodisk/ux s/ware then you could purchase the hardware raid controller for the rp3440.

Hi Andy,

thanks for your quick response.

i have RAID S/W installed in the server
RAID-00 B.11.11.01 PCI RAID; Supptd HW=A5856A
RAID-01 B.11.11.04 RAID SA; Supptd HW=A7143A/A9890A/A9891A

is this the S/W you were talking about? if it is, please guide me on how to use this.

thanks.

kind regards,

Re: How can I add a second hard disk to act act as mirror?

Hi,

then you'll need the hardware:
http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/Search_Multi_Product.asp?mscssid=HGR1VL4MW2Q38HB479EPHHNQBH5B1K45&SearchCriteria=A5856A

for example.

Re: How can I add a second hard disk to act act as mirror?

No. The Raid-0x software is the management softwrae for an optional smartarray raid controller card (hardware), but you don't have the card.

You can either purchase such card (e.g. SA 6402) or the mirrordisk/ux software (this enables LVM to do software mirroring).

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: How can I add a second hard disk to act act as mirror?

@Volkmar, please do not suggest the RAID4si!

Better to suggest something like the SA 640x:

Re: How can I add a second hard disk to act act as mirror?

Well you have Bas VxVM installed, and it is version 3.5:
Base-VXVM B.03.50.5 Base VERITAS Volume Manager Bundle 3.5 for HP-UX

As of this version, you can have your boot disk as part of a VxVM dg, as opposed to an LVM vg.
With the Base Vxvm you get mirroring capability for the Boot disk ONLY as part of the product.
So, if you wiush to, you could convert tpo a VxVM boot disk and then mirror it using VxVM
