i have a hp laser 6l printer on my network
which ip is 1.1.1.1
how can i install it on my host?
install as a remote or network printer?
what's the difference of remote printer and network printer?

Solution
network printer is a printer you print to with usually TCP/IP. It can be managed by windows or linux print queue.
A remote printer in this context is probably hung off of a hp-ux server and managed by that server. You can use the lp commands to submit print jobs to it.
To connect to a network printer additional software of some kind is required.

i use hppi,
but when i enter the ip of printer,it said:
not a network printer or printer not accessed.
but when i enter the ip of printer,it said:
not a network printer or printer not accessed.

If it has a jet direct card, then you can use hppi or try manually:
addqueue -i 9998 -q QUEUENAME -h printerdnsname.yourdomain.com
Example:
addqueue -i 9998 -q W052 -h w052.mydomain.com
If not Jet Direct, then try remote, or you may need software for that type of printer network card.
IE, for a Lexmark, you need to download "Enhanced Printer Drivers for UNIX Systems" from their web site.
