How can I quickly modify the names of remote print servers?

How can I quickly modify the names of remote print servers?

We define our printers in HPUX such that we use the WinNT/2K server as the remote machine (-orm ntserver.abc.com) and use the Windows Queue name as well (-orp ntprintername).

We need to change several printer definitions on HPUX to change the remote machine name serving the NT printers due to domain changes.

Questions:

1. What's the quick and easy to do this?
2. Is there a system file that can just be edited?
3. Can I use lpadmin and is their a "modify" option?

Thanks as always..

Re: How can I quickly modify the names of remote print servers?

How about adding aliases for those NT machines in /etc/hosts?? (If you use /etc/hosts for host resolution..)

Other ways would be identify all remote
NT print queues and prepare a list of old and new changed NT names.
and the remove them using
lpadmin -x and then adding them with lpadmin with new names.

Hi Nelson,

Try the following:

lpadmin -plocal_ptr_name -ormremote_sys_name -orpremote_queue_name

Re: How can I quickly modify the names of remote print servers?

Hi,

I did this for HPUX-10.x quite a while ago.

Compile the attached C-programm and use/modify
the as well attached script 'lprem_change'.

I used this to just change the FQN, but you can easily modify this in the script if needed.
