How do i connect to a cisco vpn3000 using hpux
I'm looking to connect an hp-ux 11.i system from home to our cisco vpn3000 concetrator at work. I'm not exactly sure how to do this. I've installed ipsec, and i have a very basic understanding of how it works, but i'm in the dark about trying to get a specific connection to our concentrator at work. Ay help would be great.
Thanks,
Bob

Re: How do i connect to a cisco vpn3000 using hpux
Most Cisco appliances have an admin IP addres s and/or a serial port. However, I would never expect such an important port to ever be accessible across a firewall or even to a VPN user without some very special considerations. Now if you are just trying to make a VPN connection as an ordinary user, unfortunately there are a number of incompatible VPN implementations out there so special software will be needed that matches the VPN server (contact Cisco). And note that another manufacturer's VPN package almost never works on the same client--in some cases, installing a second VPN package often breaks both of them. Perhaps the VPN administrator has enabled secure web access for simpler client admin.

Thanks for the reponse Bill. So what you are saying is that i need to get a hold of a vpn client like the one that cisco has available for windows or linux? That simply using the hp ipsec software is not going to cut it?

Re: How do i connect to a cisco vpn3000 using hpux
You would need to check with Cisco. I see from the data on their website for the VPN 3000 series that IPsec is the protocol. Compatibility and configuration for HP-UX? I'd aks Cisco for some help with that part. IPsec is available from HP at http://software.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=J4256AA
