How do i know if my system uses these accounts

My system has the following two accounts
nuucp
uucp

How can i tell if they are in use? Password file hows *

Most likely you are not using them. I end up deleting them because audits tend to flag them. UUCPnet is a dead network.

uucp are the old "unix to unix copy" , a star with the password field indicates - the user will be unable to login, you can also change their shells to /bin/false.

Use HPUX to secure your system.

Sorry did not include above that "Please leave the accounts on the system and dont delete them"
