How do I set up a PRINT SERVER in HP-UX

Hi,

I would like to know how do I configure or set up a PRINT SERVER in HP-UX where I can administer the printers instead of just redirecting the print queues.

Is it possible to do in HPUX or do I need to install extra softwares for this to work.

Hi DCTW,

Good day to you !
Like other print server that running on windows platform, you need to make sure first that your print server is supported with HP-UX Operating System.

The one that I know for print server that supported by HP-UX platform is JetDirect.

http://www1.itrc.hp.com/service/james/search.do?searchtext=jetdirect&searchcriteria=allwords&searchtype=SEARCH_TECH_DOCS&rn=25&presort=rank&x=20&y=13

The other one maybe HPDPS (HP Distributed Print Service) :

Hope this information can help.

Cheers,

Re: How do I set up a PRINT SERVER in HP-UX

We have been successful in using Lantronix EPS print servers and SAM. We have connected dot matrix (2934A, 2563X) printers and many different laser printers on a WAN. The print server comes with PC software that allows you to configure and/or manage each print server. SAM has been very friendly with these print servers.

SAM will be the easiest one

You can use lpadmin command for managing common printers? What is your printer make and model?

Some printers have their software and that allows you to have all the functinility of the printer.
