How do you configure net-snmp to work with Solarwinds?
Can someone please show me the steps to install and configure net-snmp from sourceforge?
I downloaded it in .gz and it unzips into several folders under a main folder /usr.
There is very confusing documentation on net-snmp site and mostly about compiling it. I downloaded the binary but cannot figure out how to install it on a UNIX 11.11i workstation 700 model.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
thanks

Re: How do you configure net-snmp to work with Solarwinds?
The product is probably installed so you just have to locate it -- the binary is probably in /usr/local/bin or /usr/local/something...
I downloaded the SourceForge version and found the docs quite confusing with very little on install an configure, so I made a file/directory list from the original gzip file, then created a script that rm'ed everything, and the downloaded the HP-compiled version from software.hp.com. NET-snmp is part of the Internet Express package which contains ready-to-use open source software. As with virtually all HP-supplied software for HP-UX, you use sh to unshar the package and swinstall to install the desired product.

Re: How do you configure net-snmp to work with Solarwinds?
Bill,
Let me just say it was a great help to know that net-snmp is included in the express package from HP. This was a first big step in getting the correct package and I had no trouble installing it.
But I am still at a loss as to the proper documentation for a clean configuration. I realize the man docs are there but so far they are just as confusing as the ones on sourceforge. But I shall continue poking around. Just want to let you know it was a big help knowing where to get a clean install depot.
Thanks much.
