How do you monitor your license expriation dates on your HPUX servers.

We have an issue with our licenses expiring out on some of our software. I am interested in seeing how you keep track of your expiration dates.

This is a contracts issue. Have something like a 'tickler' file to keep us aware of these issues. Also, our HP ASE has this information and if he likes to be paid he will keep track of it as well.

As Rick has already pointed out its more a contract renewal problem, and so account dept...
If the accounting dept has paid the renewal, you get the new keys, when the tend to put the bills aside, you have your end users angry after you...

Sorry, I am talking about any general software. I am only looking for what methods people use to track their licensing.

I have used some kind of calendar application, like that of Outlook or Evolution, that has alarms.

You could put in an appointment with a reminder alarm of 1 month in advance. When that 1 month time is reached you receive an alarm from the calendar.

This still sounds like some paperwork tasks are still involved.

I am unaware of licensing going out. Support is expired but I have not encountered the situation in which the expired software quite working.

I have seen licenses get close to expiration on some software products.

both products did a reasonable notification (the first was batch scheduler which showed the license period remaining at gui startup, the second was a backup product which notified at an hourly interval as soon as there way 15 or so days left.)

In general responsibility for this seemed to be in accounting and with the person responsible for the product.

And from experience, I'd advise You to get i.e. a one-time license for 30 days which only get's paid when it's needed; most vendors seem to offer such.
