Re: How do ypu increase the space in the "/" filesystem
Not very easy. The root volume need contigous allocation so increasing space is in most cases not possible. You need to backup/recover the system with (for example) Ignite.

Re: How do ypu increase the space in the "/" filesystem
How large is your root filesystem ?
Is it possible to move "data" to another filesystem or to remove unwanted data ?
# find / -size +10000 -xdev -exec ls -l {} \;
and look for large unwanted files.
The most save way is to use a ignite tape (make_tape_recovery) and boot from tape with the advanced options, change the size of /stand from the installation menu.
Hope this helps,
Robert-Jan.

Re: How do ypu increase the space in the "/" filesystem
you can build a IGnite tape for the system.
Using that ignite tape you alter the space of the root file system.
you can check ignite at
http://software.hp.com/products/IUX
Also check the man pages of make_tape_recovery.
Revert on further help

Re: How do ypu increase the space in the "/" filesystem
Just to complete my previous reply.
It may be possible to extend the root volume if:
- There is space left in the root volume group.
- The / volume is the last volume in the root volume group.
- You have Online JFS installed.

Re: How do ypu increase the space in the "/" filesystem
make a make_tape_recovery tape
Boot off make_tape_recovery tape
(Interupt at 10 second prompt, sea bo p# replace # with sequential device do not interact)
Interupt Ignite at the Ignite 10 second interacttion prompt.
Now, assuming there is any space left on the root drive, you can make adustments.

Re: How do ypu increase the space in the "/" filesystem
First thing fist is you need to get a free space first on your vg00, check the free PE or add another disk on vg00.
Another thing that you need to know that '/' and '/stand' filesystem is a contigous filesystem, so you need to allocate the contigous free space to extend these filesystem. This way is unsupported way by HP 8-).
And here is the supported way : re-install the whole system (hardway) OR using Ignite/UX features (easyway).
I choose the easy one by creating a bootable backup tape with make_tape_recovery command, boot the system from that tape and do some changes on filesystem size.
For more information about Ignite/UX, you can goto this url :
http://www.software.hp.com/products/IUX/index.html
Hope this can help you.

Re: How do ypu increase the space in the "/" filesystem
You can extend root from LVM maintance mode by relocationg some PE's after the root logical volume somewhere else (may be another disk or end of the same disk....)
There are already some posts to extend root and stand filesystems ; i need not explain the full procedure how to do it !! search for it in the forum.
Or if you think u need little more guidance , please post o/p of the following commands so that I can make a plan for you !
strings /etc/lvmtab
vgdisplay -v /dev/vg00
ioscan -fnC disk
Good luck ...... It takes less time than IGNITE ,and you have an opertunity to learn HP-UX behaviour in LVM maintanance mode.... I would choose this way of doing as i do not get many chances to do it !!. Taking an ignite / fullbackup is always good...
