How is PE size determined in a PV?

How is PE size determined in a PV?

I had assumed that either (a) it was a command line flag to the pvcreate command, or (b) was determined by the o/s depending upon the size of the disk.

However, I can't see a command line flag for PE size when creating a PV and I have 2 identical disks (same manufacturer, model and size) which have 2 different PE sizes (4 MBytes and 16 MBytes). What's going on?

I was just being dumb. The PE size is of course set by the VG properties. I was just getting confused as it is displayed by the pvdisplay command.
