Re: How much HP-UX costs?
The question is not clear. You can not buy HPUX without appropriate hardware and when you buy it, HPUX is a part of the deal.
Price of a simple new server is about $10k and depends on region. I'm not similar wit prices of HPUX workstations, but I suppose, the price is about $5K. AFAIK, prices of other legacy is similar.

Re: How much HP-UX costs?
that means, i cant buy simply hpux and use.
because hardware also i need to buy. ie, itanium server or pa-risc server.
so, if i buy a itanium server, whether HPUX will be provided with the server itself? like when i bought hp desktop computer, i got windows os cd with the computer.
and Michael Steele,
i searched already and not able to find.

Re: How much HP-UX costs?
Base HP-UX is provided with new server purposes. You will need a software contract to get updates for those servers, which you will definitely need.
The last time I did quotes for servers the OS was a $300 item that the third party vendor was quite willing to drop in negotiations.

Re: How much HP-UX costs?
The best approach would be to contact HP and ask them for a qoute.

Re: How much HP-UX costs?
now i will contact HP and if i got the info, i will post it here.
and one more doubt in Bill Hassell's lines:
--------------------
If you buy any new HP 9000 computer (workstation or server) then HP-UX is preloaded as part of the price.
--------------------
1. what is the difference between a workstation and a server?
2. do anybody remember the HP 9000 computer (workstation or server) price?
thanks again

Re: How much HP-UX costs?
Correct.
--------------------
> 1. what is the difference between a workstation and a server?
A workstation is typically a single user desktop or deskside box with a graphics display. It is commonly used for a single application with a lot of graphics features. A server is usually rack mounted box and has a console terminal (text only). These servers usually have a lot more RAM, disk, LAN cards, and other peripherals. They are usuaully located in computer room racks.
2. do anybody remember the HP 9000 computer (workstation or server) price?
The original price of of obsolete workstations or servers is not very relevant. For instance, a small HP 9000 workstation model 755 might have been sold by HP for $50,000 but you can buy one on eBay for $600. Of course, you must contact the seller to determine what version of HP-UX is being sold and whether you'll get the installation tapes or CDs.

Re: How much HP-UX costs?
Other option is from a VAR - they will sell servers/workstations and they typically will include the base OS as well.
