How to boot off CD ( HP UX 11 64 bit ) on a K580 ???

I need to try to extend the "/" logical volume, and need to have it not mounted, so, I am trying to boot off the CD and see if I can do it.

Have not done it before on HPUX, so, any hints here will be appreciated !!

Thanks,

Hi Henrique,

you can nnot increase the size of "/" filesystem without reloading the OS. The "/" filesystem has to be on contiguous blocks and hence if you want to increase the size of this filesystem, take a ignite backup and reinstall the OS on the disk using the ignite backup. At the inginte reinstall screen increase the size of the filesystem to the size you desire.

Hope this helps.

Hi:

The root directory '/' is mounted on a logical volume with a contiguous allocation policy. It's extension is therefore difficult. The simplest option is make an Ignite recovery tape, recover your system using it, and specify a larger root filesystem at that time.

Before proceeding down that path, however, I'd ask why you need a larger root filesystem. Generally, a relatively small number of relatively small files should be present within it, most notably the contents of /etc , /dev , and /sbin.

Re: How to boot off CD ( HP UX 11 64 bit ) on a K580 ???

thanks. I thought so.

The reason we would like to extend it, is that we have this is our sandbox server and we have a 4gb drive, and wanted to setup "/" there and do not have problems with "/" being too small for future implementations.

I favor the install everything under "/" since disks are so cheap nowadays, and we do not ahve the problems with small root disks.

In any case, it looks like the way to do this is via an ignite reinstall OR setting up a mirror root disk and modify the vg of the drive that way. Since I am sure we have many 4 GB drives on this system, this will probably be the easier way of doing this.

Actually, we do NOT NEED TO DO it now, since I setup a separate logical volume for /tmp, BUT, since I was curious if I could do it, nothing like asking here :-))
