How, exactly, do you know that that's what it is?
> [...] I use the Nero 7 to burn from ISO to DVD. [...]
I haven't used Nero in many years, but I'd guess that "use the Nero
7" is not a sufficient description of what you did.
> [...] DVD can not boot [...]
The usual reasons for this would be:
1. Your "a iso file for HP Unix v11.31" is not really an image of a
bootable HP-UX disc. How big is it? Has it a name?
2. Assuming that you actually have an image of a bootable HP-UX disc,
then you're not telling Nero to make a disc directly from that image.
I'd guess that Nero can construct a new ISO-9660 image which contains
your "a iso file" as a file in that new file system image, which would
not be what you want. If whatever you're doing with Nero lets you copy
more than one file to the disc, then you're not using it correctly.
For a job like this, I normally use a program like cdrtools/cdrecord
-- _without_ using mkisofs -- (on a UNIX or VMS system), or Disk Utility
on a Mac. But, if you tell Nero to burn an ("iso") image file to disc,
then it should be able to do that.

That tells me exactly nothing. I can't see it. I do not know where
you got it.
> [...] How big is it? Has it a name?
Also still mysteries.
> >> maybe, with hp unix, HP do not allow burn or copy disk to disk.
Nonsense. Data are data. If you put the right data onto an optical
disc, and your (unspecified) system has an optical disc drive which can
read that disc, then it should work.
> But when I reboot [...]
What, exactly, are you rebooting?
uname -a
When you're running HP-UX, can you mount your new disc? What's on
it? Can you mount it on a non-HP-UX system?
> [...] DVD can not boot to install OS.
As usual, the actual error message might be more helpful than a vague
description of what does not happen.

Windows programs like Nero are designed to create Windows compatible DVDs
Use the built-in ISO capability built into Win-10/Win-11 or get a copy of ImgBurn:

Re: How to burn iso file hp unix 11.v3 to dvd

More nonsense. Define "Windows compatible DVDs".
What may be true is that programs like Nero are designed to let users
easily create optical discs which contain multiple files in an ISO-9660
file system, which is a different task from creating an optical disc
from a disc image. (Whether you actually _have_ a proper disc image is
another question, of course.)
A quick Web search for terms like:
nero burn iso to disc
found any number of YouTube videos claiming to show how. Also
(ad-free):
https://pubs.usgs.gov/tm/04/c03/SaveISOtoCD.html
which suggests that "Nero(R). Burning Rom 5.x" has a "Burn Image"
option, which I'd expect to do the job. Presumably, "Nero 7" also has
such a feature; it's just not the default mode of operation. The fact
that a program like Nero can do many things means that a description
like "I use the Nero 7 to burn from ISO to DVD" is hopelessly
insufficient to describe what you did.
Note that "ISO" is a standards organization, not an optical disc
format.

Re: How to burn iso file hp unix 11.v3 to dvd
Some Windows programs will default to using Joliet format.
This is fine for a Windows use but HP-UX firmware and boot loaders ae some 30 years old.
Only a basic ISO 9660 format will work for older systems.

Re: How to burn iso file hp unix 11.v3 to dvd
> Only a basic ISO 9660 format will work for older systems.
Let's say that that's true. How would that be relevant when writing
an optical disc from a disc image (misnomer: "iso") file?
The whole point of a disc image file is that one need not know
anything about its content/format/structure/whatever in order to write a
disc from it . (_Size_ could be an exception when deciding which type of
blank disc to use, of course. I'd guess that a plain-old DVD-R or two
would accommodate any HP-UX 11.31 kit, but my only example is a two-DVD
set from February 2007. The fact that I have a two-DVD set only
increases my curiosity as to what this (single?) "a iso file for HP Unix
v11.31" might actually be. But I digress.)
The only trick to writing a disc from an image file is not to _add_
any new content/format/structure/whatever while doing it. (Using
something like a "Burn Image" option, for example.)
And even if it _were_ relevant, who knows whether the system in this
case is "older"? (Define "older"? Describe system?)

Re: How to burn iso file hp unix 11.v3 to dvd
Those who are lucky enough to get a recent HP-UX 11.31 iso could perhaps be best served by not using windows at all to wotrk with that ISO. There should be no reworking/reformatting of the ISO before it hits the DVD media. I would use a Linux machine to write the media. Something like:
wodim --devices # This scans for usable CD/DVD writers
Lets say the device turns out to be /dev/sg1 from the above step:
wodim -v dev=/dev/sg1 speed=8 -eject Very_precious_iso_file.iso # write the file complete as is to the DVD (speed chosen by drive capabilities)
Failing that the MP (HP-UX machine iLO) should have a feature to boot/use an ISO over the network

I, for one, don't know if that's the case here.

Why, exactly? Is there no program for Windows which can create a
valid optical disc from a disc-image file? Does the "Burn Image" option
in Nero not do that?
> [...] There should be no reworking/reformatting of the ISO before it

Right. Does the "Burn Image" option in Nero not do that?
> [...] I would use a Linux machine [...]
Ok. And I've used Disk Utility on a Mac. Or cdrtools/cdrecord on
various other systems. Many programs running on many operating systems
can do this job, I claim.
People attempting this task could perhaps be best served by getting
accurate information from their advisors, rather than a collection of
do-it-my-way advice, which would require configuring (and learning to
use) a whole new environment, when that's not necessary.

Perhaps, if the system in question _has_ an MP/iLO. Sadly, with my
weak psychic powers, I know nothing about the hardware involved, or the
"my ISO that I have", or what the fellow who started this thread
actually did with any of this stuff.

Re: How to burn iso file hp unix 11.v3 to dvd
What's funny in all of this thread is no-one has mentioned that HP-UX installation media needs to be burnt onto a Double Layer DVD (sometimes called dual-layer or DVD +R DL or DVD+R9).
If you don't use this sort of media, you can mess around with all the tools you want, on Windows, Linux or any other platform, you won't get a bootable disk out of it.
If you just order any old media online or at a local electronics store, chances are it won't be Double Layer.
It must be 10 years since I last did this, but I seem to recall that once I was using the right media, Nero on Windows would burn the ISO fine without a lot of fiddling around with obscure options.

Re: How to burn iso file hp unix 11.v3 to dvd

I'll admit that there's plenty of humor here.
> [...] is no-one has mentioned that HP-UX installation media needs to

Perhaps that's because it's less true than you claim. Someone did
ask about the size of the "my ISO that I have", but the fellow who
started this thread has yet to provide much useful information,
including that datum.
The Mac Disk Utility describes the discs in my two-DVD FOE set from
February 2007 as "HP_SW", "Unknown - ISO 9660 (Rockridge)", and gives
their sizes as 3.29 GB ("DVD 1 of 2") and 1 GB ("DVD 2 of 2"). Neither
of these would seem to require a dual-layer DVD. Perhaps later kits
used fancier technology (and fewer discs).
With my weak psychic powers, I still know practically nothing about
the "my ISO that I have", including whether it actually is an image of
some HP-UX installation disc, so, based on no actual information, at
least one of us is reluctant to make broad claims about exactly what
anyone might need to do to make a bootable disc from it.
> [...] without a lot of fiddling around with obscure options.
Would you classify selecting "Burn Image" as "fiddling around with
obscure options"? (I wouldn't.)
