Eric,
although we are running informix here as well, I never needed to find the command the check the version.

After some searching it seems the onstat command is your best bet!

We use the follfoing quite a lot (If anything goes wrong):

Hi Eric,

Using the onstat command will give you the version and how long the database has been up. The quickest way is with onstat - but onstat -l, onstat -g ses, etc will also give you the same information on the first line of the output.
