Re: How to configure mail

Shalom,

First you need to understand that the problem is commonly not on the system its firewall setup and relay rules in your shop.

To relay mail with DS directive in sendmail.cf you must have the relay server set up to permit relay. This is not done by default.

Lets try and find the problem.

From the HP-UX server

sendmail -v -d8.99 -d38.99 someone@yahoo.com

Type some text

.

You will receive full diagnostics.

If you don't need a relay server then you don't need to change sendmail.cf and you simply need to make sure /etc/nsswitch.conf permits dns resolution (first or second doesn't matter) and that /etc/resolv.conf resolves hostnames.

nslookup yahoo.com

Lastly check with your firewall admins. If you want to access the public Internet to send mail you must have outbound permitted on port 25.

Also note that yahoo won't accept your mail without reverse lookup record that matches the ip address its being sent from.

If your public IP address is 202.123.10.22 then there must be a A record in your DNS domain that points to this ip address and a matching reverse lookup record that matches the A record.
