how to deactivate/turn off the backup on the client in NetBackup?

I have a backup class "ABC", and within it, I have a system called "snoopy", now I want to deactivate the backup on this particular system within this class, how do I do that other than "delete"? I don't want to deactivate the entire class.

Thanks,

Re: how to deactivate/turn off the backup on the client in NetBackup?

Hi Hanry,

AFAIK any backup schedule changes need to be done on the master or media servers as they signal the client & initiate the backup.
So even if you removed include_list* from /usr/openv/netbackup, the master server will still kick off a backup session on the client.

Jeff,

I understand that.
I am asking some actions on NetBackup server, not on the client.

Well...fire up the Netbackup GUI, go to policies, right click snoopy - deactivate...

Not too sure if that will work or not.

If this is the only policy containing this client, you could disable netbackup on the client by disabling the netbackup ports on the client (/etc/services).

when multiple systems are part of a single policy - you can not deactivate a single system from teh policy.

You deactivate the policy - none of the backups will run for that policy.

What youa re to do is..

Remove (delete) the client from the policy - this does not remove the exclude/include information for the client.

When youa re ready to restart the backups on this client - then readd the client. Veritas will read teh information from that client and all is back.

I have to perfor these steps each time the network group destroys a server and has to take it offline.

Hope this helps
