Re: how to disable Tape drive

What messages did you get?

You should either fix the (hardware) problem, check if the diagnostics are current or disable the EMS monitoring (monconfig).

Removing the driver will prevent the usage of the device.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: how to disable Tape drive

hi,

yes, you can do that. It is adviceable to get it replace as soon as possible. But if the EMS keep on sending messages about the faulty tape drive and you want to stop it. Do this:

1) check for tape drive address
# ioscan -funC tape

2) and modify ems to stop monitor your tape drive
# vi /var/stm/data/tools/monitor/disabled_instances

and add the following line. (Assuming your tape drive is at address 0/0/2/1.15.0)

/storage/events/tapes/default/0_0_2_1.15.0

3) restart EMS and choose (e) to enable.
# /etc/opt/resmon/lbin/monconfig

If you run cstm, you won't see the tape drive anymore.

If you dont want other users to use the faulty tape drive, you may want to remove tape drive from system. You can do this:
# rmsf -H 0/0/2/1.15.0

Pls assign some points if this answer your question, thanks!

Re: how to disable Tape drive

IMHO the message
"While attempting to process an I/O request, the device reported a
mechanical positioning error. "

indicates a bad drive.

Your diagnostic version is from early 2002!

Update it!
