Re: How to find out the IP add of the configured Network Printer?

Hi Sanjay,
I didn't found anything in this file
/var/spool/lp/interface/hp_4050_1.

Well I don't need this ip because I know the ip of this printer. but I was trying to make sure it is right.

Re: How to find out the IP add of the configured Network Printer?

Hi Sandip,

you have to view following file in the machine /etc/lp/interface/Printer_name

grep for PERIPH variable and you will find the actual name for the printer that is present in DNS table.
now nslookup on that name and you will find the IP address of the printer.

Thanks,

Re: How to find out the IP add of the configured Network Printer?

Sachin,

Initially if you configured the printer through IP add, then only you will get IP addresses in those files. But if you configure the printer through hostname then you will not get the IP address on those files.

Sandeep, look in your /etc/hosts file.

grep printername /etc/hosts

Re: How to find out the IP add of the configured Network Printer?

Have you tried 'lpstat -s' ?
If the output contains hostnames, that's what the system uses, so you should be able to resolve with nslookup.
