Re: how to get bash working in HP-UX

Actually, /sbin/sh and /usr/bin/sh are the POSIX shell, NOT the bourne shell. For information on the POSIX shell do a 'man sh-posix'.

You can do file name completion by pressing the ESC key twice.

If you really want BASH, go here:
http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/Shells/bash-3.2/

Note the run-time dependencies that are required and be aware that the dependencies probably have dependencies.

If you do choose to install BASH, ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY DO NOT CHANGE THE DEFAULT SHELL FOR THE root USER. It ***MUST*** reamain /sbin/sh. If you change there is a VERY GOOD possibility that you will render your system unbootable.

I use this bash from hp

as a component of TC-OpenSource (9 components) B.11.23.20.12

Shalom,

1) Install bash. Don't change root default shell unless you want your system to break.

2) The default shell is the posix shell. So the question begs, Why are you getting the bourne shell? Check /etc/profile and .profile
