How to identify disk in HP UX 11.31

Hi,

We have a HP 11.31 server which is connected to HP EVA SAN. Earlier in HP11.11 whenever we present a disk to server, we used to get the new disk(After IOSCAN) as C#t#d#. Now in HP UX11.31 how to identify a disk? Since this shows as disk1, disk2 but not the physical path. It is difficult to identify the disks of same size.

Will anybody help me out please???

Re: How to identify disk in HP UX 11.31

There are a lot of ways:

# ioscan -m dsf

# ioscan -fNCdisk

# ioscan -m hwpath

...

and finally there is still "evainfo".

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

My ioscan is ioscan -funCdisk. Set an alias for the ioscan command to ioscan -funCdisk! It will make life much easier.

Hi

And also, you wont find multiple Persistent DSF's for a single LUN which has alternate links.

Since it has native dynamic multipathing enabled.

There are lot of new features are available in 11iv3.

Re: How to identify disk in HP UX 11.31

Dear Ullas
u can use ioscan -funC disk
then u can see all categaries there
claimed and unclaimed
once u present a disk from an eva it is just uncliamed only
also u have to compare these ioscan output
with u strings /etc/lvmtab file also.

11. if u are presenting a disk from eva u are assinging lun number from eva itself also
u have to compare wiht this lun number with new disk but here it will be always not accurate. some times if u are assing lun 6 may be disk will get 5. so this method is not accurate.

thanks and regards

I disagree!

>> "u can use ioscan -funC disk

With "-u" you will see only CLAIMED devices

>> "once u present a disk from an eva it is just uncliamed only"

No. The disk will be CLAIMED by the always installed driver.

>> "11. if u are presenting a disk from eva u are assinging lun number from eva itself also

Maybe in combination with another multipathing software, but the direct (legacy and new) hardware path will reflect the LUN number.

Any proceedings so far?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: How to identify disk in HP UX 11.31

randomly - this is something I guess when I see my ioscan output:

#ioscan -m dsf
Persistent DSF Legacy DSF(s)
========================================
/dev/rdisk/disk5 /dev/rdsk/c2t0d0
/dev/rdisk/disk6 /dev/rdsk/c3t2d0
/dev/rdisk/disk7 /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0
/dev/rdisk/disk32 /dev/rdsk/c2t1d0

So far I cannot see any relation ...

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
