How to install HP-ux or Linux on Appollo 712/60

I have recently purchased a couple of used 712/60's. One small problem is that
I can't get any OS to load on it. I have only a 2GB SCSI drive. No CD-Rom or
Floppy, I have a Network with Wint NT Server and WIN98 wkstn's, My lan is
connected to the Internet via a gateway. Is there anyway to install an OS like
Linux from my current setup, or should I get an external CD-Rom drive and try
to install from there. The next part is, where can I download a copy of UX
from as I don't think there is any data on the Hard Drives at all.

I have a similiar situation, did you ever get an OS installed? I have a 712/80; I'm still trying to get the right monitor set up and an OS for it.

I know that Linux is not currently available for the PA-RISC processor, the Puffin Group is working on that currently for new kernel support.

I'm really a newbe on HP machines but I have installed 10.20 on one of my machines (715).

Nothing on the drive ?
You have searched for bootable drives?
My machine got up with
"boot scsi.5.0"

Try "search scsi"

I think you have to get your hands on a install/core CD, but you should be able to install via network.
Not sure if it's possible to install from an M$ machine though.

Well now I have a PA-RISC as well

The 712 are capable to boot over LAN but you need a boot server for it, or an Ignite server.
I have no idea how many Workstations you have to install. But, it could be a good idea to install one using an external CD-ROM and install the rest of them, using the first one as an Ignite server.
But I think you need the external CD-ROM anyway
There is no good troubleshooting with bad data

Currently the PA-RISC processor doesn't work with any other OS until the Puffin Group finishes their linux distro. 'mk-linux' claims to be able to run on the PA-RISC, i have yet seen anyone succesfully getting a stable system that can be used.

I suggest waiting for the Puffin Group's release.
