How to install patch

I download a patch for CiscoWorks 2000 CD-One
" cw-cd-one-ed4-p1-hpux.tar.Z".

I naver installed a patch form a tared file. always used swinstall, I tried to install through swinstall not working, How do I install this patch.

The file is both compressed (that what the 'Z' is) and tar'd;
try this:
#uncompress filename
#tar xvf filename

Then you should be able to run swinstall against the resulting file.

Hi,

You have to uncompress the file first:

# gunzip file_name

Then untar

# tar -xvf file_name.tar

Then use swinstall and specify the .depot file.

move the file to where you want it installed, say /opt, then unzip the file, then use:

tar -xvf ./cw-cd-one-ed4-p1-hpux.tar

when I did a uncompress " file name " I got a file name without the " Z " at the end. then I run the " tar xvf filename. it created 5 folders and 10 -15 files the temp directory. when I do a swinstall which file do I need to pickup.

The upgrade procedure is identical to performing a new installation.

Hi,

You can give the directory name where your files are extracted. swinstall will pickup all depot files from the source.

Another try is giving the full path of the .tar file in the swinstall source window. For eg: if you have the .tar file in /tmp after uncompress, enter /tmp/cw-cd-one-ed4-p1-hpux.tar

Honestly, if this "patch" is from Cisco, I doubt that they have put their patches to Their software in a "depot" format. You really need to either read the Cisco install documentation, or call Cisco.

Hi,

Is there a depot file in the list. If so, you have to use that to install the software. Can you post a list of the files you get when you untar the file.
