how to kill a process

Hi,

I want to kill a process but I have tried all signals without success

cvdpar1:/sbin/init.d#uname -a
HP-UX cvdpar1 B.11.00 A 9000/800 1193911547 two-user license

Re: how to kill a process

Chris,

I assume this is related to your other question about the missing NFS mount and I'll repeat here that the only way to clear this up is to reboot.

Re: how to kill a process

Chris,

if the process is waiting for something (which it will never get) and ignoring all signals, your only choice to get rid of it is to reboot.

Re: how to kill a process

Some process can not be killed with kill signal's even we have permission to do as, zombie process ( they run but don't do anything ), and nfs un-resposnding process.

And are you asking ruid ?!? rid?

if ruid means, it is real uid.
It is the normal user identification and you can get as whoami command execution.

If you change real userid to effective one then you can view both with id command.

Real Id is the original identication of the process / operation. Changing them to another uid called effective uid changing there.

Easy to suggest when don't know about the problem!

Re: how to kill a process

Here is the "faulty" process :
root 16141 1 0 08:03:45 ? 0:02 cp /opt/sybase/db_dump/CARE-20040909215443.dmp.gz /rspace

Do you have some advise for me ?
As it's root who has launch this process, how can I modify the id of this process ?

I do not know why someone is posting questions using my ID, but it is not me.

I apologize to those who have replied to this post, whether it is a valid question or not.

This incident has been reported to HP.
