Have a look at the man page for 'ln'
It provides information on soft links (symbolic) hard links etc.

$ man ln
Anyone for a Mutiny ?

Try this

find / -type l | wc

Re: How to know how much symbol link in my HP-UX system?

by the way....
It'd better add the option "l".

#find . -type l|wc -l

so it can know the exactly numbers in current filesystem.
Thanks a lot.
