how to make visible on windows-os my hpux files

Hi everybody!

I have a problem..I have a hpux 11.0 system with nfs active.
I'm sharing a directory to other hpus systems and everything is all right.

Now I have to share another directory on windows os...I have to share this directory to individual login...

I think I shoud use /etc/exports

Now...what should I do for sharing this directory?
Do I need samba?
How can I use samba?

Thanks in advance

PS I know it's a BIG question...if you have a document link...any url...any information...I'll be grateful to you!

You have two options.

1 samba/cifs. (you can access windows file from ux and ux files from windows.) Free product.
2. Buy a product like pcnfs and mount ux exports on windows.

1st ooption is better. Easy to setup and manage. No costs involved.

If you're already using NFS to share files amongst hp-ux systems, then you're already using /etc/exports.

To share files to Windoze, you must either install NFS on each windoze box (I don't think this is free), or else install samba on your hp-ux boxes - this is free.

Hi,

You can configure CIFS. This is like sama.
If you want to do it with nfs you will need an nfs client on windows. However this is not on individual login but on ip-adress.

CIFS 9000 is much easier than finding an NFS client for windows.

There are some things you need to do after install.

You need to modify the smb.conf file and change the workgroup to the name of your domain

You need to look at the share section of that very same file and open up for share those directories you want to be visible.

The users will be challenged for their passwords.

The smbpasswd -a for the share users to allow them to browse in and see their files.

Its helpful if you have an NT Domain PDC primary domain controller setup that the hp box a domain account so it becomes browseable.

I've done this with Linux and been partially successful with HP-UX at my private/home office. When you run into specific issues, make a new thread or add to this and I'll try and help.
