Re: How to monitor the network bandwidth in HP-UX
Yes,
1. Check with glance.
2. You can use tcpdump from http://www.tcpdump.org/
Cheers,
Raj.

Re: How to monitor the network bandwidth in HP-UX
If you want to check the bandwidth of the NIC in your system, recommended tool is the MRTG. Which gives the fentastic graphical ouput with trend details of 1 year, monthly, weekly and daily and hourly.
You can refer the URL http://www.mrtg.com/
It is a grphical tool, you need to enable SNMP in your machine. If you want traditional way you may need to use the netstat commnad to get the summary details of the interface.

Re: How to monitor the network bandwidth in HP-UX
run glance then type "l"
The on-line information displayed takes the format below:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Interval: 5 NETWORK BY INTERFACE Users= 1
Network Packet Packet K-Byte K-Byte
Idx Interface Type Rate In Rate Out Rate In Rate Out
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 lan0 Lan 11.9/ 8.2 0.0/ 0.0 0.7/ 0.6 0.0/ 0.0
2 lan1 Lan 11.9/ 8.2 0.0/ 0.0 0.7/ 0.6 0.0/ 0.0
3 lan2 Lan 90.5/ 113.1 72.5/ 114.1 16.3/ 20.5 11.9/ 21.5
4 lo0 Loop na/ na na/ na na/ na na/ na
If you also wish to view historical data e.g. bandwith usage for the different hours/days/ weeks, you can also run MWA and extract appropriate reports.
hope this helps too!
kind regards

Re: How to monitor the network bandwidth in HP-UX
Hi Yogeeraj_1,
I see in one of your responses that you addressed glance network metrics. I'm trying to understand what the difference is in terms of the two numbers (separated by "/") that glance displays under K-Byte Rate In and K-Byte Rate Out. Would you be able to help clarify this for me?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
