How to present Pure Storage Volume to HP-UX hosts

We are migrating our rx6600 hosts from an EMC VNX5300 to a Pure Storage array.

The SAN fabric is in place and the volumes have been created in the the Pure storage array.  The hosts have been added to the array using the HBA WWN IDs.

However, on the HP-UX hosts, running ioscan does not recognize the volumes.  There is scant documentation on the Pure side (HP-UX Recommended Settings - Pure Technical Services (purestorage.com).

I tried opening  a service request but I found out we don't have SW support.

Does anyone in the forum have any experience with this same or similar issue?

Re: How to present Pure Storage Volume to HP-UX hosts

Hi Dominic,

Please make sure that you have zoned the HP UX hosts WWPN with the newly added Pure storage array WWPNs. From San switches verify the connectivity using fcping command. If you are using Brocade switches, you can use the command syntax below to verify the communication.

Command Syntax: fcping <hpux host WWPN> <Pure Storage WWPN>

Example:

switch:admin> fcping 10:01:01:01:c1:21:01:c4 21:10:10:10:17:15:1d:15
Source: 10:01:01:01:c1:21:01:c4
Destination: 21:10:10:10:17:15:1d:15
Zone Check: Zoned
Pinging 10:00:00:00:c9:29:0e:c4 [0x20800] with 12 bytes of data:
received reply from 10:00:00:00:c9:29:0e:c4: 12 bytes time:1162 usec
<<truncated>>

If you see "zoned" under zone check and if it is getting reply, then you need to check the Presentation from the array end and communication from host end.
If any issues with zoning, you need to check the devices logged in to the switch and correct zoning from switch side.

Thank You!

Re: How to present Pure Storage Volume to HP-UX hosts

Great guess on where the issue was.  The zoning and ISL was done between the old SAN switches to the new SAN switches for the HP-UX hosts/VNX SAN, but zones to the HP-UX/Pure SAN storage were overlooked.  Thanks!
