Re: How to recover an ignite from one itanium

Hi there.
You have to boot your system from the install DVD. Then you will be shown a menu to boot your system from different devices.
This is a basic problem taken over from Intel. You have to boot from a FAT32 disk or similar deivices first, before you can access the HP-UX stuff.

Hi,
-boot from SO dvd media
-select OK at the first sceen
then
[ * ] Boot from CD/DVD, Recover from Tape

Select the tape driver and press Enter.

This procedure is in the "Ignite-UX administration guide" book.

Re: How to recover an ignite from one itanium

HP-UX 11.11 is a PA-RISC only version of the OS. One cannot recover a PA-RISC 11.11 system onto an Itanium system - at least not the OS - one might recover data and perhaps applications that would be run under the Aries emulator, but I'd expect that to be from a "normal" backup tape rather than an Ignite recovery tape. Actually the Itanium systems these days are Itanium2 - one shouldn't still be running on Merced (aka Itanium1).

In Itanium2, one should be running 11iv2 aka 11.23.
