How to recover the system

Dear All,

I have a rp3440 system, and HP MSL5000 tape Library. Due to some file curroption its not booting. I had a backup of /, /stand, /var, /usr and home in single tape. That had been taken by the fabackup command.
fbackup -f /dev/rmt/0m -u0g graph

Now how to restore the / backup through tape library as I am able to boot the system in single user mode.

Re: How to recover the system

Hi

Do you want to recover it all

Then

mount -a
frecover -r -f /dev/rmt/0m

If less then
use -g graph as in backup containing files you want

You may need to recreate some vols first

Re: How to recover the system

hi

first of all you should had a recovery backup taken with a command make_tape_recovery . if it is not available . you will have a recovery cd which is supplied with you installation media . the cd might be labeled as support cd boot from the cd and give a command in the isl support plus

from that you can get a menu and select the desired option . otherwise you may need to reload the o.s and try to restore the tape what you have with you .

Re: How to recover the system

Hi,

As I said that I am able to login in a single user mode. Now I also mentioned that I have tape library connected to the system.

My question is that if I want to restore all the backup , how I will do it. I mean simply I have to run the frecover command and it will restore all files and subdirectories.

Re: How to recover the system

Hi John,

you can try this,

1.) boot into single user mode,
2.) activate vg00 "vgchange -a y /dev/vg00"
3.) mount all the lvs in vg00. you can use the mountall command since it will error out for all the lvs which are not part of vg00 and would still mount the ones for vg00
4.) do bdf to verify that the vg00 filesystem have been mounted.
5.) restore from tape using frecover -r if you want to restore the completer tape.
Keep a copy of the kernel before doing to the restore so that you can use it to boot again if there is a problem.

Hope this helps.

John --

What type of errors are you getting going into multiuser mode ?

Error messages might give us a clue and help us recover just the files you need.
