How to reset

Hi,

We accidentally losted the LAN console GSP login password, just wonder if there is any simple and easy way to reset it? can a terminal console help in this case?

Thanks.

Re: How to reset

Hi Rainer,

What does that command do? does it just clear the loginname/password or will it clear everything including the LAN console IP address?

Re: How to reset

Hi Rainer,

This server is very remote from us therefore we would like to preserve its LAN console IP and netmask setting.

So, anyone know how I could reset the GSP loginname and password from within the telnet root prompt? or, alternately, configure the GSP menu via the root prompt?

Re: How to reset

Philip,
This command does nothing good if you want to reset the passwords from the GSP. The only chance you have to do that is at the local console!
But the stty command is the only way to reset the GSP from the OS. It does no harm to your GSP configuration. It does NOT delete the LAN configuration. You are able to issue it any time.

Re: How to reset

Hi Patrick,

Do you mean if we plug a local console to the server and follow by pressing control-b, the server will not ask for GSP oginname/password? and, after entering GSP we could change the password with the "SO" command again?

Re: How to reset

Philip,
It's not that easy?
If you hook up a local console you'll get operator access to the GSP without enter a password. But a user on the operator level is not allowed to change passwords.

When you press the reset button of the GSP (or reset in any other way) you get a message on the local console if you want to reset the passwords. You have 10 sec. to answer with yes. If you don't answer, the reset will go on without touching the user accounts.
This question appears for security reasons only on the local console
