How to set up server-client network on a hub

I think I am having some type of network issue connecting an Ignite client to the server so I can restore a backup.  I want to try connecting them to each other through a switch that has no link to any additional network.  If I do that what should I put in /etc/bootptab for dn, ds, and gw?  Has anyone done this?
