Your problem is not completely clear to me, but it sounds like you might want to search for something like Samba.

Contrary to popular belief, Unix is userfriendly. It just happens to be selective about who it makes friends with.

Re: how to share UNIX files in Windows 2000 server

Hi,

Welcome to the ITRC forums!

CIFS/9000 is an HP product based on Samba that will provide this functionality for HP-UX 11 and above. It's free and is supported by HP, as long as you have HP-UX support from HP.

The software is available for download from http://software.hp.com and documentation from http://docs.hp.com

regards,

Darren.

Re: how to share UNIX files in Windows 2000 server

As a Windows "SHARE" or NFS mount?

For a Unix System to see a Windows File system is a bit problematic, I prefer using a little NFS server on Windows 2000 if I need to see an exported file system from Un*x. There are several good ones either fairly inexpensive and some open source.

I mount a drive on a 2000 server, that has the ability to set an NFS share up,
then all I have to do is modify the /etc/fstab with the correct IP information and mount point. create the mount point on your Un*x server as a /

For example

I have a 2000 server called "nas"
place the IP address in the /etc/hosts for nas, create the directory and modify /etc/fstab

nas:/NAS /nas nfs rw,suid 0 0

then mount the drive

Re: how to share UNIX files in Windows 2000 server

You can share any file you want. CIFS/Samba client is built into the Windows OS. No additional software required.

Additional software is required for NFS connect.

CIFS Server is required for this setup on HP-UX
http://software.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=B8725AA

Client is useful but not required if Unix doesn't need access to Windows shares.

http://software.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=B8724AA

These shares can be managed and authenticated by a windows primary domain controller or an LDAP server. The currently tested CIFS based on Samba 3.0 is due shortly and will support integration with a Windows ADS environment.

Tell me how you want to do it and I or others can provide specific documentation.
