How to store many make_tape_recoveyr files on a DAT tape

Hello.

Excuse-me for my english but I'm French.

I am currently migrating an application HP-UX 9.07 pennies HP-UX 11.11.

This application will be then installed on 120 B2600/785 machines.

These machines will not be to install with the same software :

- 40 machines will be to install with :
HP-UX 11.11
Ingres 2.5
FTAM
OTS
OPENVIEW 6.0

- 40 machines will be to install with :
HP-UX 11.11
OTS
OPENVIEW 6.0

- 40 machines will be to install with :
HP-UX 11.11
X25
OTS
OPENVIEW 6.0

My customer does not want that I use a Ignite-ux server to install the whole of the machines.

For each type of machine, I thus created an image disc using the order make_tape_recovery.

I would like to know if it were possible to store these three images disc out of only one tape DAT ?

If so, how to make, so that with the reboot, the operator can choose which type of machine install.

Thank you in advance.

No, I don't think that will be possible.

Your best bet will be to create entirely separate make_tape_recovery tapes for each environment you want to install.

DAT tapes are so cheap and of such relatively limited capacity that, even if it were possible, I see little if any advantage in combing multiple backups onto one tape. You're better off to use separate tapes.

make_tape_recvovery is one run per tape.

But you can use make_sys_image to create tar depot's(golden images) and then write them to tape.

make_sys_image -d /images -s local -u

You can also do make_net_recvoery jobs to a central Ignite server and then back them to tape with fbackup or any utility you want.

make_net_recovery -s ignite_hostname -a ignite_hostnanme://images/location -x inc_entire=vg00

Your English is much better than my French so no apologies required!

You can't do this. Sorry but I think you are going to have to give different tapes to different operators.

I actually created 3 tapes, but under HP-UX 9.07, my customer had only one tape to install and he wants the same thing under HP-UX 11.11

make_tape_recvovery allows you to create only one recovery image per tape.

Re: How to store many make_tape_recoveyr files on a DAT tape

If I want to use make_sys_image for create a DDS Tape Archive, the document "Ignite-UX Administration Guide" indicates that "If
more than one archive per architecture is on the media, it is advisable to
use an exrequisite attribute between them so only one archive can be
selected at one time".

What does it mean ?

Hi,
With so many machines to install I would strongly recommend setting up an Ignite server. This server will hold all your needed images, you dont need any tapes and can install all machines from the network.
