How to total size of space used in a directory?

Suppose I have the following directory
/applprod/aaa/bbb, in bbb I need to calculate the total space used by this directory including any sub-directory under it.

How I can do that?

Try

du -sk .

Use

du -sk /applprod/aaa/bbb

It will give you the amount of space used in KB.
