How to Turn Legato Storage Manager Off

I keep getting this message in syslog:

Legato Storage Manager Media: Critial backup to
pool Default waiting for 1 writable backup tape.

We don't use this for backup and I want to
disable this. I can kill the process but it
keeps coming back. It is not in my boot
start up script and I can find this.

How do I turn this software off?

Thank you for your help,

Re: How to Turn Legato Storage Manager Off

There has to be a startup script somewhere in bootup. Look in /sbin/rc1.d, /sbin/rc2.d, /sbin/rc3.d. Somewhere in here is the script that starts and stops it. Look in /sbin/rc0.d for the shutdown script.

Re: How to Turn Legato Storage Manager Off

No it's not in any of the start up scripts I've
checked several time. I think it was some
demo software installed (before my time) and
I just need to find the file where it is and
delete it.

But I can't find where it was installed or
deposited. I can't even find a process for
it with a PID.

I tried calling HP support but they don't
support Legato anymore and Legato won't help
me unless I have a support contract.

Any clues? I've been looking all over for where
this software is stored on my unix box.

Re: How to Turn Legato Storage Manager Off

I beliveve the startup/shutdown script is called /sbin/init.d/networker.

Config file should be /etc/rc.config.d/networker.

To stop: /sbin/init.d/networker stop

To keep off after reboot: Edit /etc/rc.config.d/networker and change 1 to 0 (or better yet, swremove LSM (Legato Storage Manager)

Re: How to Turn Legato Storage Manager Off

As an aside, I've found that recent Oracle installation CDs try to install Legato Storage Manager - I don't know why. I now edit the installation script (root.sh?) that the DBAs ask us to run and comment out the offending lines.

Re: How to Turn Legato Storage Manager Off

Try the command 'nsrshutdown'. That is the command that can be used to stop Legato if you don't use the /sbin/init.d scripts.

Re: How to Turn Legato Storage Manager Off

just to correct what Patrick said. Use:

nsr_shutdown
