HP 712/100 LAN card not working

Hello all,,

I have a porblem with the LAN connection on my HP 712 workstation, running HP-UX 11.00
I have configured /etc/rc.config.d/netconf with the correct IP address, gateway and subnet mask, and I have rebooted to allow those changes to take effect.

lanscan shows the interface as being up
lanadmin shows the Administration status is UP but the Operational status is DOWN

The workstation was OK until last week when it was moved, and given a new IP address. I have tried different LAN cables which are OK on another workstation in the same LAN.

Can anyone please offer any help or advice?

Many thanks in anticipation,

John

Re: HP 712/100 LAN card not working

Hi John,

What is the status of ifconfig lan0?. It should show the status as up.

Operational status is DOWN means there is a physical connectivity problem. If you are sure that the cables/switch ports are intact, try resetting the card using the lanadmin command.

Thanks for the prompt feedback.
ifconfig lan0 shows status UP

I have tried reset in lanadmin, that gives errors:
dl_error_primitive = 0xe8
dl_errno = 0x04
dl_unix_errno = 16

Re: HP 712/100 LAN card not working

Sorry, missed a line of the error message from reset in lanadmin
Full message is
error: expected primitive 0x06, got DL_ERROR_ACK
dl_error_primitive = 0xe8
dl_errno = 0x04
dl_unix_errno = 16

Re: HP 712/100 LAN card not working

Hi,

What kind of Hub/Switch do you have in the new room where you moved the computer? Maybe the hub/switch is 100MBps and the card is 10MBps.

Re: HP 712/100 LAN card not working

This is probably a connectivity issue. I hope your switch port is not set to 100MBPS. Check the connectivity all the way from the switch including the switch configuration.

Re: HP 712/100 LAN card not working

The 712 internal lan only runs at 10 MB, looks like your connection is to a 100 MB port.

If auto-negotiation is set on the port, turn it off and set the switch port to 10 MB.

Re: HP 712/100 LAN card not working

Thanks to all who took the trouble to reply. Problem turned out to be that the switch port was set to wrong speed. I had been (wrongly!) informed that the port was set to auto-negotiate, but it was in fact set to 100Mbit full duplex. Is now 10Mbit half duplex and all is well.
