HP CIFS suite on HPUX 11.0 (A500)
I have encountered some problem with HP CIFS suite. It would be greatly appricated if somebody could help.
I have installed HP CIFS suite (B8725AA, Samba 2.2.8a) on HPUX 11.0 (A500) recently. Everything went smoothly. smbd and nmbd is able to start without any problem. Windows clients are able to map to the share presented by Samba.
However problem appears when more than 6 Windows clients try to map the share. The 7th client will compliant that network path could not be found. Even on the Samba server, smbclient would fail. If any of the child smbd is killed, everything will be back to normal till the 7th client try to connect again.
No such problem when I'm using Samba 2.0.7.
Thanks in advance.

Re: HP CIFS suite on HPUX 11.0 (A500)
Versions of CIFS that are A.01.08 or newer require some kernel tuning as they use greater resources than older versions.
Take a look at the user manual for your version of CIFS - it's available on http://docs.hp.com - for info on the kernel parameters that need changing.
It's also worth checking the CIFS logs for any pertinent errors.
regards,
Darren.

Mostly the nflocks and nfile Kernel parameter needs to be increased.

Re: HP CIFS suite on HPUX 11.0 (A500)
Watch /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log for a specific error while the client is loggin in. You should see something that will point to the exact issue.
Try this:
tail -f /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log
log in that seventh client.
You may need to actually look at a samba log, but I don't think so.

Re: HP CIFS suite on HPUX 11.0 (A500)
