Re: HP/Compaq Merger Official Today

also take a look at http://www.hpq.com

no itrc.hpq.com yet!

hpq-ux.com isn't gone, so let's not jump the gun yet!

Later,

Re: HP/Compaq Merger Official Today

With the new HPQ stock ticker the domain hpq.com was inevitable. I guess this has been planned and prepared for some time.

Re: HP/Compaq Merger Official Today

The only good thing is they might get rid of the Netservers, Compaq's windoze servers are much better.

Maybe the new unix os will be called HPU-64!!

Does this mean we are going to have an intergrated forum!!!!!!

Probably it's to early to judge it now. Only time will tell, like in other cases of Mega mergers

My CE was saying just the other day that he was "supposed to change his voice mail greeting" to include "the New HP". I don't think he was going to bother.

Hi:

I think only history will write whether the vision was a dream or a nightmare.

I hope that the HP engineers who have voluntarily contributed their time to this Forum continue to prosper. While I???m sure I???ve missed some in the following enumeration, largely because it???s based on the HP-UX Forum where I spend my time, here are some individuals who deserve an accolade and a wish for good luck:

Alex Glennie
Andy Monks
Berlene Herren
Bill Hassell
Carsten Krege
Cheryl Griffin
Denver Osborn
Eran Maor
Frank Slootweg
Melvyn Burnard
Patrick Wessel
Rick Jones
Steffi Jones
Stephen Doud
Trond Haugen

Thanks ladies and gentlemen!

With my warmest regards...

Pete, thanks for the plug...but trust me, Jim never forgets me or lets me forget! ;)

Just attended a 2 hour launch of the new HP between Carly and Michael...very intriguing. These forums and the engineers above will be fine -- with your support. Please continue the great feedback and activity!

Re: HP/Compaq Merger Official Today

I'm kind curious what the merge will bring for us. Will HP export the Unix market and Compaq the Wintel platform. But what with librairies and SAN's?

I guess that the old prodcuts will have there usual product life cycle and once it is finished, a new line will be presented by both HP and Compaq.

Re: HP/Compaq Merger Official Today

"...the future of HP UNIX lies in HP-UX" -- best thing I've heard all week!

HP Alphaservers will still run HP Tru64, for the HP 9000 servers, still HP-UX 11.11, but it seems that this is the migration path.

HP-UX
2002 -- 11.22 McKinley

HP-UX with Tru64 UNIX features
2003 - 11.23
Begin the migration
Migration tools Phase I
Common System Mgmt

2004 - 11.23T
Scalability/Mgmt
TruCluster
AdvFS (16 TB)
Migration tools Phase II
Common System Mgmt

2005 - 11.30
Self tuning, self adapting
vertically and horizontally

Re: HP/Compaq Merger Official Today

Just incase the link doesn't work, here's the unix bit.

Michael Capellas, former CEO of Compaq and the newly appointed president of HP, said: "We've taken the additional enhanced technical characteristics of Compaq's Tru64 architecture which over time will be integrated into HP-UX."

These features include clustering and file systems.

Re: HP/Compaq Merger Official Today

Hi,
As i work on both hp-ux and Tru64, i was thinking on to concentrate which OS. But today announcement by HP says, they will retain both the OS. So in future this forum will be having both hp-ux and Tru64. So the new URL will be
http://forums.itrc.hptru64.com

Re: HP/Compaq Merger Official Today

I am much in favor of the merger as it will lead to better products.

We had gone to Compaq for the non-stop systems and now will be back to mostly a one vendor shop.

Looking forward to having Openview working on the non-stop platform!!!!

Re: HP/Compaq Merger Official Today

Just go through the HP web site, www.hp.com, it has been merged, but acording to my talk with one of HP consultants early of this week, for HP people, they don't know how to search Compaq products since they don't know where can get what, I guess the same thing for Compaq people, they do need time.

Got a news from China HP yesterday, they created a new management team for the new HP, including four big bosses, all of them came from previous HP, none from Compaq, sounds cool?

Re: HP/Compaq Merger Official Today

digital.com
compaq.com

a lot of class A networks to manage..

But what about dec.com

perhaps OpenVMS is not included.. my personal experience with this beast was one login.. after creating a file and never being able to edit it after I gave up.
