HP-DLPI not working?

Hello gurus,

I have two similar A500 boxes with 1Gbit network cards connected via a cross-over cable. TCP/IP works just fine but linkloop fails. I have tested the cards in 1GB, 100M, and 10M modes with the same result.

Any suggestion how this can be fixed? lanscan on both boxes shows that HP-DLPI is supported...

Thanks!

Hi there,
See if the link below helps.
Talks about some patching issues.

Re: HP-DLPI not working?

you might want to check your diagnostic device files (ll /dev/dlpi*). Recreate the diagnostic device files if they are lost.

# cd /dev
# insf -d dlpi -e

These files are required by the LAN diagnostic tools linkloop and lanadmin.

Hope this helps

Re: HP-DLPI not working?

Both machines are up-to-date patch-wise for HP-UX and the lan card drivers, so that article does not apply here unfortunately.

Re: HP-DLPI not working?

/dev/dlpi* are OK
neither syslog nor netfmt /var/adm/nettl.LOGxxx show any error.

Any other ideas?

Re: HP-DLPI not working?

Hi,

How many network cards do you have in your machine?

What is the linkloop command syntax you are using?

Try
# linkloop -i PPA -n 4 0x...

where PPA is the instance no. of the 1Gbit card you want to use. If this option is omitted, linkloop uses the first PPA it encounters in an internal data structure.

Hope this helps.

Re: HP-DLPI not working?

Thanks all for the suggestions, I do not know what the real cause of the problem was but the problem went away with additional patching done....
