HP LaserJet 4000/4050

I have a lserjet 4000 & a laserjet 4050. When you send a print job to either printer, it prompts you to install the selected paper type in tray 1. I have both the printers set to pickup paper from tray2 if there is no paper in tray1.

Most likely your print job contains a paper tray selection code. However, if this is true when printing plain ASCII files, you'l need to look at the printer script used for printing. So a bit more information is needed:

1. are you using the lp command or is this coming from a prepackaged program or is the data coming from another system?

2. How is the printer connected? By parallel cable direct to the HP 9000, or by a network connection using HP's JetDirect card and software, or to a remote print server?

All of these possibilities will determine where to locate the tray selection problem.

It happens whenever we try to print from Windows based programs such as word or excel & it happens when we try printing from the accounting package they use here - solution6 XLON.

Both of the printers are connected via the in-built jetDirect ports.

I hope this is enough info.
