HP LJ4 Plus network printing problem...

When a large job is printing off and another smaller job is sent to the printer it prints it before it has finished the first job. It then finishes the larger job, hiding the smaller document in it! Any help would be appreciated...

Re: HP LJ4 Plus network printing problem...

What type of Connection does the printer have? Is this an HP Jet Direct card?

Re: HP LJ4 Plus network printing problem...

Hi,

It depends on the queue priority when the job is printed. If the small job is printed with the higher priority than the large job,it might print as well while the large job is still buffering after printing few pages.

Just check the priorities of both the jobs and let me know.

Looks like print queue priorities has been set in your case. You may need to review our print queue priorities.

Re: HP LJ4 Plus network printing problem...

The printer is connected via a Jet Direct Box to a UTP network and is served by only one queue. Would queue priorities still affect it if there is only one queue? Or am I being dumb and you mean priorities of individual jobs in the queue?

Matt,
Have you turned on lpsched logging to look for any potential errors/problems? To do this:
1) lpshut
2) lpsched -v
3) monitor log file /var/adm/lp/log

I hope this helps,
Brian

Re: HP LJ4 Plus network printing problem...

Matt, individual request have their own priority. You can see the priority of requests in an lpstat of the queue in question.

Re: HP LJ4 Plus network printing problem...

Thanks for the help guys, but it seems to have righted itself! Checked all the priorities and all the users use the same??? All printers are served nby no more than one queue...

Anyway, cheers
