Re: HP surestor DAT 40 cant detect
# ioscan -fnC tape
# insf -e
the driver for the tape drive, i.e stape has to be build in the kernel for the OS to install the drivers for the device.
you can go to sam -->Peripheral devics --> Tape Drives -->Add / Diagonise missing tape drive.
with best wishes

Re: HP surestor DAT 40 cant detect
did you try,
# ioscan -fnC tape
and is the description, C1537A
if still unknown, do this to create the device file:
# insf -H
still unknown, try re-booting.
regards.

Re: HP surestor DAT 40 cant detect
Try adding the device in the way joseph has suggested. If its still not working, try adding it through SAM...
Mostly, the driver for the tape, stape won't build into the kernel. or do you find any other device on the same 0/12/0/0.4.0

Solutiongo to sam -> Kernel Configuration -> Drivers -> look and highlight stape -> Action -> Add Driver(s) to Kernel -> reboot.
perform ioscan -fnC tape to confirm if the device is still unknown.
regards.
