HP Ultrium 2-SCSI problems with compression

Not a long time ago we install new streamers in our system there are HP Ultrium 2-SCSI
before it we was use DDS4 one.
So problem is Ultrium had not compression enabled or it too bad. I use 200 Gb cartriges now but when i try to save little more then 100
gb (it is Ultrium hardware tape capacity) i see error "End of Tape"

Backup files what i usially save can be easy compressed. Becouse my old DDS4 with compressoin on can save about 50-60 Gb on single cartridge.

When i take status of Ultrium Drive i see this
info:
Testing Drive and Tape...
Drive: HP Ultrium 2-SCSI
Status: [81014000] EOF online immediate-report-mode
there are no info that streamer in Compression mode.

Overwise DDS4 info is:
Testing Drive and Tape...
Drive: HP C5683A
Status: [81112600] EOF online compression immediate-report-mode

compression present.
How i can enable compression at Ulrium.
It is wasted money without it.

Await a return badly.

Re: HP Ultrium 2-SCSI problems with compression

Have you got all the device files correctly set up for it, eg;

tape 1 1/0/0/0.3.0 stape CLAIMED DEVICE HP Ultrium 2-SCSI
/dev/rmt/1m /dev/rmt/1mnb /dev/rmt/c15t3d0BESTn
/dev/rmt/1mb /dev/rmt/c15t3d0BEST /dev/rmt/c15t3d0BESTnb
/dev/rmt/1mn /dev/rmt/c15t3d0BESTb

Adn you check which one has compression on with lssf;

stape card instance 15 SCSI target 3 SCSI LUN 0 at&t best density available at address 1/0/0/0.3.0 /dev/rmt/c15t3d0BEST

You need to use this best density device. Also there are newish patches for the ultrium and fbackup. You need these too.

Re: HP Ultrium 2-SCSI problems with compression

all device files installd but i no see any difference between 1m 1mn device files without compression and ftp://root@192.168.0.1/dev/rmt/c4t4d0BEST
where compression must be enabled.

How i can update it?

Re: HP Ultrium 2-SCSI problems with compression

Your device files look ok then. Have you got the latest fbackup and ultrium patches ?

# PHCO_28998 1.0 fbackup(1M),frecover(1M) cumulative patch
# PHKL_27556 1.0 SCSI Ultra160 Cumulative Patch
# PHKL_28217 1.0 SCSI Tape (stape) cumulative

We just installed these patches and our Ultrium works fine - compression is good. There has been lots of discussion about Ultriums and compression problems but these seem to be caused by software (backup programs) - not the drive or device files, eg;
