HP-UX 10.20 - fstab broken - no boot

Hello!

I realized that within the farm that I manage there is HP C3200, with HP-UX 10.20.

The issue is that, since they did not have free space, I mounted an NFS to be able to make backups. Up there all right, the problem was when I added it to the "/etc/fstab". When he rebooted the computer he did not return anymore.

The equipment has a VGA board, but when I connect any monitor I figure "frequency out of range". I do not have the serial cable, although if someone knows what I can get it.

Note: I have another server exactly the same functioning. Both are connected to a datastorage I suppose something SCSI.

Some idea?

Regardsss

Re: HP-UX 10.20 - fstab broken - no boot

disconnect mouse and keyboard. use a null modem cable and connect serial console.

stop booting and boot into single user mode to fix fstab.

Hope this helps!

Re: HP-UX 10.20 - fstab broken - no boot

That error typically means the shell specified is not included in the /etc/shells file so the OS does not consider this a valid shell.  Not sure how to override this one.  Can you restore the /etc/passwd from a backup without first logging into the system?

In single user mode /usr is not activated, change it back to default /sbin/sh

Hope this helps!

Re: HP-UX 10.20 - fstab broken - no boot

I understand that I have to modify the "/etc/passwd" to default again, but as I do if I do not have an interpreter when starting the single user mode.

My procedure:
-Start Machine
-Interrupt the boot
- boot pri
- hpux -Is

There's another way?

When it starts, the prompt remains in "#", but it does not allow me to enter anything at all.

Re: HP-UX 10.20 - fstab broken - no boot

If I would love to be able to modify the file, but I do not have how to do it.

I can not turn on the computer in normal mode because it does not load the fstab, I can not start in user only mode, because it does not allow me to write in console once started.

I tried, but I still can not write in the console once it starts.

I leave the log in case it serves ..

Re: HP-UX 10.20 - fstab broken - no boot

Still I can't write in console. I use Serial Console...

Does this have something to do with not being able to write in the console?

Primary boot path: FWSCSI.6.0
Alternate boot path: SCSI.6.0
Console path: GRAPHICS(2)
Keyboard path: USB

┬┐?

Interrupting the boot, and entering the part of "LanConfig" I saw that it is automatic. The team has a static IP. Does it have anything to do with the fstab and the nfs that I added?

Re: HP-UX 10.20 - fstab broken - no boot

I was able to solve the problem.

- First was getting the nullmodem cable
- Then find the commands to enter the single user mode.
- When I started the console, I was not allowed to write. That's because with the PC I was using (Win10 and putty 64bits) it did not take the emulation of the terminal correctly. Using a computer with Win7 and a Putty version of 32bits worked correctly.

Thank you very much!
