Hi,
I am trying to boot off an external SCSI CD-ROM Drive for installing HP-UX 11.0 on a HP 9000-A-Class/Model A180C
system.
I get the following error messages :-
========================================
Boot IO Dependent Code (IODC) revision 144
Cannot find ENTRY_TEST.
Failed I/O operation with
ENTRY_IO
Status = -10

Error Reading IPL
========================================
I reset the server and allowed the OS to boot from the Primary Hard Disk and mounted the OS CD from the external CD ROM Drive. This works fine.
Also I would like to know if the above HP Model Supports
a 64 bit HP-UX mode.
TIA

Solution
Answers in reverse order:
The A180C is based on PA7300LC chip which cannot run in 64 bit mode.
The error from trying to boot the CD means that firmware couldn't locate/read the boot area of the disk. Not all models of external CD drives are bootable even if they are mountable from the OS.
Make sure the SCSI bus is correctly terminated. Use an HP drive if possible.

That's the requirement that fails a majority of CDROM drives. While the
HP-UX drivers can handle most any changes that are needed, the processor
ROMs do not have any code to change the block size to 512. Virtually
all Toshiba drives default to 512 at power on, and several customers
have reported that Plexstor drives also default to 512.
