HP-UX 11.0 character word processor

Does anyone know of a character based word processor that will work under HP-UX 11.0? We have dumb terminals in our remote offices, so we need a character based word processor. We are using Corel Wordperfect for Unix 7, but Corel says this may not work under HP-UX 11.0 and that it is not supported at all. I have heard at least one case of Corel Wordperfect for Unix 8 working under HP-UX 11.0, but I can not find any place to purchase a copy of Corel Wordperfect for Unix 8 as Corel has stopped selling it. We could use something else as long as it has basic text editing capabilities and the ability to save, retrieve and print files (preferably more user friendly than vi). Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

A company I used many many years ago (over 10) was called uniplex, and I their web site is www.uniplex.com. And they are still around!

They also have a spreadsheet.

How about emacs...okay so its not the ideal word processor. Unfortunately, there are no more text based word processors...almost all of them are GUI based. You'd either have to stick with a text editor, which doesn't allow you to do any fancy formatting or go with a full blown GUI based program. Some decent text editors include pico (part of the Pine project from U. of Washington) and Joe's Own Editor (joe). Both of these should be available from the HP porting center.

Hi,

Emacs - highly configurable, but for advanced users.
Joe - easy to use and enough configurable.

Take a look at:

(it's a mirror of the site that Santosh post'ed)

Re: HP-UX 11.0 character word processor

Thanks for the responses. I will lean towards using the Uniplex solution if WP7 doesn't work under HP-UX 11.0. The text editors would then be a 2nd backup solution. I am very happy to know that someone else still makes a character based word processor for Unix.
